Join St. Pius X Catholic Church and Verso Ministries on a pilgrimage to Italy and be transformed by the beauty and universality of the Catholic Church. From Rome, where the ancient streets overflow with history, to the peaceful countryside village of Assisi, and a visit to the site of the Eucharistic miracle in Orvieto, walk in the footsteps of fantastic saints and encounter firsthand the ever-unfolding story of the Church. Through immersion in all the sights and culture Italy has to offer, this pilgrimage will inspire you to marvel at the work God has done through the church and draw you into deeper relationship with Christ.

November 8, 2027
  • Depart the U.S. on your overnight flight to Rome
November 9, 2027
  • Arrive in Rome and transfer from the airport to the hotel to check-in
  • Opening Mass at St. John Lateran, the oldest basilica in the West and cathedral of the Diocese of Rome, and the Lateran Baptistery
  • Possible Papal Mass, depending on the Holy Father’s schedule
  • Pizza-making experience at a local restaurant for a Welcome Dinner
  • Overnight in Rome

November 10, 2027
  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Attend the Papal Audience (pending the Holy Father’s schedule)
  • Time for lunch on your own
  • Entrance to the Colosseum and Roman Forum, a site of martyrdom for the early Church. The Church views these places as Holy Sites, consecrated by the blood of the martyrs
  • At 4:30pm, visit Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, built on the site of the family home of St. Cecilia where she was martyred and is now buried
  • Enjoy a tour of the excavations beneath the Basilica
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight in Rome

November 11, 2027
  • Enjoy a morning at the Vatican with a private Mass and tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, in which you’ll see Michelangelo’s Pieta and have time to pray at the tomb of St Pius X
  • Free time to get lunch on your own and explore
    • Optional tour of the City Center during this time
  • Late entrance to the Vatican Museums and an opportunity to see such highlights as the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms, and the Gallery of Maps
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight in Rome

November 12, 2027
  • Transfer to the Holy Stairs, with time to pray on the steps that Christ climbed on his way to his trial in the palace of Pontius Pilate, brought to Rome from Jerusalem by St. Helena
  • Venerate the Passion relics at the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, including a piece of the True Cross, one of the Holy Nails, and a portion of the Crown of Thorns
  • Time for lunch on your own
  • Sing a public Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the oldest Marian shrine in the West, containing a relic of the Bethlehem manger
  • Overnight in Rome

November 13, 2027
  • Morning Mass at St. Paul Outside the Walls, the final resting place of St. Paul
  • Continue on to the medieval town and World Heritage Site of Assisi
  • Stop at Santa Maria degli Angeli, with the Porziuncola where St. Francis founded the Franciscan order
  • Dinner at local restaurant
  • Overnight in Assisi

November 14, 2027
  • Sing a public Mass in the Lower Basilica of the Basilica of St. Francis
  • Guided tour of Assisi, including the Basilica of St. Francis, the Basilica of St. Clare, which holds the San Damiano Crucifix and the tomb of St. Clare, and Santa Maria Maggiore, where St. Carlo Acutis is buried
  • Free time to explore Assisi
  • Overnight in Assisi

November 15, 2027
  • Transfer back to Rome, stopping en route in Orvieto
  • Tour of Orvieto’s Old Town, including the Cathedral which contains the shrine of the Eucharistic Miracle of Orvieto. This Eucharistic Miracle resulted in the institution of the Feast of Corpus Christi and the creation of the hymn Tantum Ergo, written by St. Thomas Aquinas
  • Celebrate Mass, and free time for lunch
  • Return to Rome with a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant
  • Overnight in Rome near the airport

  • Transfer to the airport and depart for the U.S.

Jeremy Hoy has served as the Director of Liturgy and Music at Saint Pius X for the past 22 years. With a deep passion for sacred music, liturgy, and the formation of young musicians, he has dedicated his ministry to helping others encounter Christ through the beauty of worship and music. In 2023, Jeremy had the privilege of leading a group of students to Rome for the International Congress of Pueri Cantores, an experience that brought together young singers from around the world in prayer, fellowship, and music. During the congress, he also served as organist at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. Jeremy is looking forward to returning to Rome in 2027 with another group, continuing his commitment to sharing the richness of the Catholic musical and liturgical tradition with all his musicians and the parishioners of Saint Pius X.

Father Andy Barnes is the oldest of three boys. He grew up in South Bend as a cradle Catholic, attending Holy Cross grade school and St. Joseph High School before going to Marian University in Indianapolis. In his junior year of college he entered Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary in Indianapolis, and after two years there attended Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD for four years. He was ordained a priest in June of 2025 and has since been assigned as the parochial vicar of Saint Pius X and chaplain at Marian High School. In his free time enjoys playing pickup basketball, spending time with family, and following the Chicago Cubs.

Flights

There is an optional group flight available for this pilgrimage. Details will be available 10 months before prior to departure. Pilgrims may also arrange their own airfare based on the designated arrival/departure times provided.

Please note: All group flight tickets are roundtrip airfare. Pilgrims must fly on both the outbound and return flights with the group. If a pilgrim does not fly on the outbound flight, the airline will cancel their reservation on all flights without refund.

Pricing is based on currency exchange rates as of September 2025. Any drastic fluctuations in currency exchange rates may impact final pricing. Cancellation Policy

All cancellations of individual pilgrims must be made in writing (email or letter) to Verso Ministries. Individual pilgrims should cancel with their group leaders, who are then responsible for notifying Verso Ministries in writing (email or letter). Cancellations are possible at any time, but refunds are subject to cancellation fees at the rates listed here. Cancellation fees are for individual pilgrims. Any cancellation charges incurred from other suppliers or vendors (flight, lodging, ground transportation, tickets, etc.) may come in addition to the administrative fees listed here. All group flight airline tickets, optional excursions, trip options, pre/post extensions, private transfers, and additional hotel nights are non-refundable 100 days or less prior to departure unless otherwise noted. We highly recommend the purchase of individual travel insurance.

  • Within 2 weeks of deposit: Free cancellation*
  • 14 days after deposit & 91 days or more from departure: Deposit is retained
  • 90-61 days prior to departure: 25% of trip cost is non-refundable
  • 60-31 days prior to departure: 50% of trip cost is non-refundable
  • 30 days or less prior to departure: 100% of trip cost is non-refundable

*To qualify for free cancellation within 2 weeks of deposit, deposit must be made 180 days or more prior to departure.

Important Information for Pilgrims Seeking to be Matched With A Roommate

  1. Pilgrims who register by themselves can indicate in their Pilgrim Portal that they would like to be matched with a roommate. Verso Ministries will make every effort to accommodate that request, however, cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
  2. If, by 90 days prior to departure, Verso has not been able to match a solo pilgrim with a roommate, the single room supplement will be applied to the pilgrim’s invoice and due for payment.
  3. If Verso is able to match a pilgrim with a roommate after they have paid the single room supplement, the pilgrim will be refunded the extra charge.
